Can I Negotiate Credit Card Debt Reduction?
  Major Advantages of Debt Settlement

If you are one of the many consumers suffering from credit card debt, you do not have to rely on a consolidation company or file for bankruptcy to get financial relief. There are a few simple ways in which debt can be negotiated without the middle man. Not only will you be saving yourself money by negotiating your own debt, but by avoiding the fees associated with utilizing the particular service.

The first step before attempting to negotiate credit card debt is to know who and how much you owe. Gather up monthly statements and review interest rates and other fees which may be negotiable. Figure the amount that you are paying in interest and fees. In this process, it's also a good idea for the consumer to look at what they can afford to pay. Some credit card companies may require that you set up automatic payments or pay the amount in full within a certain time frame if there is a significant reduction in the debt.

Creditors in which the individual has the highest fees and interest rates should be contacted first. Letting the creditor know that you wish to pay off the balance but can not do so with the current accrued interest and/or fees is the best bet. Asking how much the debt can be settled is usually a good starting point for negotiation. Often, many credit card companies will reduce the debt by at least 30 percent. However, if the account is past due or in collections status and a lump sum can be paid the consumer may be able to yield even bigger savings.

Do not assume that you can not negotiate your debt if the creditor wants the amount in a lump sum. Many will allow you to split this up into multiple payments, providing that funds are received via automatic funds transfer. A payment plan will most typically need to be set up immediately though. The most important part of this step is that the consumer make sure that the funds are available. If even one payment is not honored, the opportunity to reduce the debt may be eliminated.

Credit card debt can be personally negotiated. A consumer may be able to take advantage of credit card reduction even if their account is not past due or in collections. If necessary, pay one debt off at a time and make sure to communicate with the credit card companies regularly.

Would you like to pay less than 50% of your debt?   Now you can with debt settlement.
