Credit Card Debt Forgiveness: What is this?

Major Advantages of Debt Settlement
With unemployment rising and the economy moving in a down spiral, it comes as no surprise that people across the nation are in a money crunch. With bills piling on top of one another, people are searching for ways to settle unsecured debts, including credit cards. Financial organizations are looking at ways to reduce their losses and are more apt to accept settlements on accounts, rather than having to charge off the debt. Companies are compiling ways to settle debt for a percentage of the balance owed and in turn, forgive the remaining debt.
First, debt settlement can be offered during the tax refund period. With consumers expecting lump sums of money, they are more willing to settle the debt to avoid having to pay the bill. This will free the consumer of monthly obligations. Negotiation between the company and the customer takes place to effect a debt settlement amount that can be reasonably reached. It is important to listen to the consumer to assess their financial situation. If the consumer is angered, the company will most likely never receive any money from the consumer.
Second, a monthly obligation can be arranged with the consumer. After monthly payments are paid on time, consecutively for a period of time, the company could have the option of forgiving the remainder of the debt.
Third, an attractive option for consumers would be to have the account removed from their credit bureaus. This means that the consumer can apply for credit in the future and lenders will not have to take the bad debt into consideration. This will benefit the customers because it can increase their credit score and get them the lending they need. When this is offered, customers are more willing to pay the debt in full or settle the debt for majority of what the balance is.
Fourth, credit consumer counseling can be offered to customers. These types of organizations will work directly with the company, as well as the consumer, to pay monthly obligations on time and have the company agree to forgive a portion of the debt.
Fifth, financial organizations may choose to forgive debt that includes interest and late fees that were charged to the customer. When the consumer will agree to pay what they charged to the credit card, the companies will be more willing to forgive these fees to obtain some of the money they were owed by the customer.
